JAZZ SUMMERTIME VIBES AND THE MYSTERIOUS GARDEN OF THE VOYNICH MANUSCRIPT - an exceptional musical and cultural experience on a summer evening at the Minorite Monastery of St. James in Prague as part of the MINORITE CULTURAL FESTIVAL.
Famous jazz compositions and evergreens will be performed by Lukáš Verner's masterful ensemble Capella da camera Praga, which brings together leading concert masters.
After the concert, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Minorite Monastery in Prague, founded in 1232 by Czech King Wenceslas II, which is open to the public for the first time in its nearly 800-year history. At the same time, you will also see the premiere of an exhibition by academic painter KLÁRA SEDLO: THE MYSTERIOUS GARDEN OF THE VOYNICH MANUSCRIPT. This most mysterious manuscript in the world, which despite all efforts has not yet been deciphered, inspired her to create a series of paintings that traveled this year from Brussels to Rome and finally to Prague.
Did you know that:
The Voynich Manuscript is a mysterious illustrated book written in an unknown script in an unknown language, which was created sometime between 1404 and 1438. The manuscript is the subject of interest for many scientists from various disciplines, especially cryptologists, as it contains sections on botany, astrology, biology, cosmology, pharmacology, and mysterious recipes. It also has a connection to the Czech environment (the first known owners were scholars from Prague), and it is even possible that it was written here. It is highly likely that its author was Francesco Angelo of Florence, a scholar, physician, botanist, and personal apothecary to Charles IV, for whom he founded the Angelic Garden Hortus Angelicus, whose founding charter was signed by the king and emperor in 1362 at the Minorite Monastery of St. James, which we present here.
It is also extremely interesting that this year, American writer Dan Brown, author of the bestseller The Da Vinci Code, announced the release of his latest novel, The Secret of Secrets. The book, which will be released on September 9, will once again take readers into a world of secrets, conspiracies, and scientific discoveries. The main character is once again Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist, who this time finds himself in Prague. Will you also touch on the Minorite Monastery in Prague? Will the Voynich Manuscript be part of it? Let's wait and see...
Capella da camera Praha:
Sometimes musicians pick up period instruments and play Bach, Handel, or Vivaldi in an "informed" manner, but since we say we play "classics from the last 500 years," we also took the music of G. Gershwin, A. Piazzolla, A. Weber, H. Mancini, John Lennon, and ABBA into our "workshop."
In 2008, double bassist Lukáš Verner founded the Capella da camera Praga ensemble with his friends, who are the principal players of the FOK orchestra. The ensemble performs across Europe and is dedicated to performing chamber music of various musical styles. The ensemble's lineup is also adapted to this, and it has performed in Italy, Germany, and Spain, among other places.
Tickets can be purchased online or directly at the information stand at the Minorite Friary in Prague.
(Season ticket holders have priority in case the concert is sold out).
