The anatomy of Prague’s architecture is revealed in the works of academic painter Tomáš Rygl.
From the beginning of April, the Minorite Monastery in Prague will host a unique exhibition Prague in Detail, inviting visitors on a journey not only through space, but above all through time, uncovering the secrets of the city’s most important landmarks. In his work, Tomáš Rygl does not present architecture as a static backdrop, but as a living organism. His unique “X-ray view” method allows us to look beneath the surface of many significant buildings. These works, depicting Prague’s most important monuments, help us understand their inner logic and principles—details that an ordinary visitor has no chance to notice in the real world.
Through 36 paintings, you will have the opportunity to “walk” through Prague from Prague Castle to the Basilica of St. James. Passing through Hradčany with the Strahov Monastery, Loreta as Prague’s most important pilgrimage site, Prague Castle as a symbol of the Czech Republic and the seat of kings, the Neo-Gothic and Gothic parts of St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane, and далее through Malá Strana with the Church of St. Nicholas—Prague’s most famous Baroque church—you will reach the New Town and Vyšehrad.
In detail, you will also discover important sites such as the Church of St. Peter and Paul at Vyšehrad, the National Museum, the National Theatre, and the Jerusalem Synagogue. In the Old Town, the X-ray perspective will take you inside places such as the Rudolfinum, the Old Town Hall, St. Agnes Convent, the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the Municipal House, and, of course, the already mentioned Basilica of St. James the Greater.
