Masters of the Organ of St. James – Composers of World Renown
A new exhibition pays tribute to three distinguished organists and composers closely connected with the Minorite Monastery of St. James in Prague, presenting their lives and works. The deeply rooted musical tradition begins with the life’s work of the eminent Czech composer and Minorite priest at St. James, organist and music educator Bohuslav Matěj Černohorský.
His legacy was continued by Bedřich Antonín Wiedermann, a virtuoso concert and church organist and professor at the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, who chose Professor Jiří Ropek as his successor. Ropek later became one of the most prominent organ virtuosos of the second half of the 20th century and served for more than 45 years at the new organ of the Church of St. James.
The exhibition will be continuously expanded.
